SOMA Laboratory is proud to announce global availability of the PULSAR-23: 1984 Edition through SOMA EU, with shipping worldwide.
This limited edition has been a year in the making: a collaboration between SOMA Laboratory, California-based synth boutique The Midium®, and an engineer Noah Jolly.
The name says it all: bare metal, red lights, angry. The 1984 Edition is not just a colorway — it is a reimagined machine.
REDESIGNED FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
The Bass Drum module has been completely overhauled. A new oscillator produces an asymmetrically clipped triangle wave that can be driven all the way to a square wave via the Drive knob, making the BD harder-hitting and more aggressive than ever. The tuning range is wider than on the standard model, and the OMG pin is now an AC-coupled FM input, opening up expanded sound design possibilities.
The Bass section introduces a new filter inspired by the Polivoks (the legendary Soviet analog synthesizer) raw, alive, and beautifully unruly. As SOMA US Division head Kevin Flynn describes it: “We wanted to see how far we could push the PULSAR-23 platform.”
As a bonus, each unit includes a user-swappable BD module from the original PULSAR-23 design, giving players the best of both worlds.
PULSAR 23
PULSAR-23 is an organismic drum machine designed by Vlad Kreimer. It has a semi-modular structure and consists of 23 independent modules. PULSAR can be used for the synthesis of percussion instruments and rhythms, bass and melodic lines, effects and sound landscapes, as well as a source of control voltage and powerful analog FX processor.
