The JMT Noisy Mic-2 is a powerful vocal effects microphone designed to create everything from gritty distortion to robotic and otherworldly sounds.

This updated version adds new sound-shaping features, including a built-in oscillator that can be blended with your voice, plus a high-gain distortion circuit with EQ for dialing in your tone. The oscillator can also be modulated by the internal LFO or an external CV source, making it easy to create evolving, FM-style textures and experimental effects.

The EXT CV input accepts signals from external oscillators, LFOs, JMT Synth noise machines, or analog synthesizers, mixing them with your voice internally. It utilizes a highly responsive condenser microphone capable of generating various noise textures simply by blowing into it.

The output stage features a mute circuit, allowing you to instantly toggle the output on or off via the microphone switch and effectively control feedback. By matching the oscillator frequency to the pitch of your voice, you can create a wide range of sounds—from robotic tones and "death metal" growls to whispered vocals.

The Multiplex Circuit is a modified ring modulator design, fine-tuned to create a balanced blend of your voice and the internal oscillator. You can dynamically alter your voice with high responsiveness, whether emphasizing high, mid, or low frequencies. At lower GAIN settings, distortion decreases but volume drops; please use the TREBLE, MIDDLE, BASS, and VOLUME controls to adjust the sound.

The LFO affects the VCO only when the VCO switch is engaged, allowing you to modulate the waveform and speed.

Audio input from the microphone is mixed via a multiplex circuit with either the internal oscillator or an external CV source (when EXT CV is selected); the resulting signal is fed into a distortion circuit—capable of emphasizing treble, middle, and bass frequencies—before being sent to the output. It activates only while the microphone switch is pressed.

It operates on either a center-negative 9V DC adapter or a single 9V battery.

NOTE: Do not connect any microphone other than the one provided; doing so will damage the circuitry!
